As you may or may not have heard (you really should though – almost every major media outlet has covered this story), a woman wearing well applied make-up is more trustworthy, competent, and likable than a woman going au naturale according to a recent study. Funded by Procter & Gamble and conducted by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston University and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the study had subjects review images of women in various levels of make-up from bare-faced to glamorous.  Regardless of who or how long they viewed the image, the result was the same – women who appeared more glamorous (most amount of make-up) were considered more capable than their naked-faced counterparts. It’s a beautiful, 68 degrees, sunny Thursday.  There are no clouds in the sky as I leave the office on a much needed coffee run to the magical and ever faithful Wawa (New Jersey, Pennsylvania…you know what I’m talking about).  I get my coffee, breakfast bagel, pay the nice lady and begin to make my exit.  As I approach the set of doors, there are 2 men locked in the classic door-hold shuffle.  “Ha!  This always happens to me!!” I think to myself, giving a half-awake, low laugh as the younger man wins the bout and lets the older gentleman into the Wawa, who then holds the first door for me.  Immediately after this, I hold the door for an incoming little old lady, only to walk out the second door which is being held by the aforementioned younger man.  As this complicated endeavor unfolds, the four of us exchange a blizzard of “Thank yous,” “Good mornings,” and “Hey theres,” and upon reaching our respective places in or out of store, we all exclaim a powerful effect of great advertising:  “Hey!  This is just like that commercial!”  What?!?! Seventh Point dove into this 40-acre water theme park located in Williamsburg, VA when the park found itself on the verge of bankruptcy after only being open for two years. Competing in a high traffic tourist area, Seventh Point quickly identified the need to re-adjust the primary target audience from teenagers with limited income to families with disposable income. Seventh Point Marketing re-positioned the park as a location specific destination for both tourists and locals alike. A concentrated marketing plan produced an opening day capacity crowd of more than 6,000 people, requiring the park to close their gates. (read more…)
